Our Work Bears Fruit

OBAMA SURGES WITH CATHOLICS

The efforts of so many faithful Catholics (please see many of the fine organizations linked along the right hand side of this blog) and other people of good will, Barack Obama and Joe Biden have surged to an 11 point lead in the latest poll conducted by 'Faith in Public Life'. 51% of Catholics say they will vote for Obama, with only 40% for McCain. This is 16 points ahead of John Kerry's performance with Catholics four years ago. Among young Catholics (ages 18-34) 55% say they will vote for Obama.

Also interesting in the poll was that while past surveys have consistently found that the Republican Party has been perceived to be more “friendly” to religion, it found that Obama is perceived to be slightly more “friendly” to religion than McCain (49% to 45%).

The increasing Catholic support for Obama has put states such as Minnesota, Michigan, New Mexico, Iowa and Pennsylvania in the category of very likely to vote for Obama. Remaining battleground states with large Catholic populations include New Hampshire, Florida, Ohio, Indiana and Nevada.

Amen, and again i say Amen.
I feel that the "Christian Right" is neither ... Christian, nor right. As of today, the Right's attacks on Obama's character betrays that they have lost touch. I am proud of the Catholic Church's stance with the poor, immigrant, and down trodden... and while I may not whole heartedly agree with the pro-choice stance, the hope of the poor reside with the democrats this year. How dare one of the "Keating 5" accuse Obama with guilt by association.

Count me as a CATHOLIC for Obama/biden. As an afterthought, the woman who might be a "heartbeat" away from president truly scares me from a religios point of view.

Looming Immigration Crisis

From the MANITOBA HERALD, Canada

A flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration. The possibility of a McCain/Palin election is prompting the exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray, and agree with Bill O'Reilly.

Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal rights activists and Unitarians crossing their fields at night.

I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn,' said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota .

The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry. 'He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken.

When I said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?'

In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals scaled them. So he tried installing speakers that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields. 'Not real effective,' he said. 'The liberals still got through, and Rush annoyed the cows so much they wouldn't give milk.'

Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive them across the border and leave them to fend for themselves.

'A lot of these people are not prepared for rugged conditions,' an Ontario border patrolman said. 'I found one carload without a drop of drinking water. 'They did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though.'

When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing loudly that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about the McCain administration establishing re-education camps in which liberals will be forced to shoot wolves from airplanes, deny evolution, and act out drills preparing them for the Rapture.

In recent days, liberals have turned to sometimes-ingenious ways of crossing the border. Some have taken to posing as senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs. After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs, Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior-citizen passengers on Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney hits to prove they were alive in the '50s.

'If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get suspicious about their age,' an official said.

Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies.

'I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them,' an Ottawa resident said. 'How many art-history and English majors does one country need?'

"Bigboobs?"

I tend to not read the comment box here because of a certain someone *grin* but seriously?

If we're going to start sizing up personal body parts, who's the man who shows a blinking cow's face instead of his own? Do I hear "little richard?"

Of course you don't. I'm an adult.

Kate,

It's always great to hear from "the other side of the aisle".

Thank you for providing a voice for all the Obama Catholics out there!

Thank goodness some of us have been a part of reminding the Church that A) She is not a body politic, and B) We want the full spectrum of Pro-Life to be taken seriously. Some have lost positions in Parish Councils, as Eucharistic Ministers or as CCD teachers, just for instance, but the Church did the right thing this year with the Faithful Citizen movement, and hopefully we will one day see this senseless oil war end, and the same focus put on so many moral wrongs in our society. We've worked hard, and I'm glad at least the younger generation is less hung up on culture wars and more concerned about helping others. BTW, for those of us who've been around a while, Rustler's funny Canadian email stopped being funny about 4 election cycles ago (when it was passed around in Xerox form...) It's cut how it simply gets redone to suit whichever side is down in the polls at the moment, but seriously -- we need change in bogus internet rumors too.

Somebody on this site whose name begins with R needs some editing. I would also suggest that R should get some counseling. He is way way too angry. As a student counselor for many years, I know sociopathic anger when I see it. I would also ask him to state his realtionship to the Catholic Church.

Rustler's comment came through my email even though it's been deleted, so I thought I'd address it, as I'm sure he's still reading (as I imagine he does little else!)

Rustler, you said to me:
"hahahahahaaaaaaaaa

You're 25 and you think you're an adult? I have underwear older than you. Your picture looks like you're about 15.

You haven't lived long enough to know how to blow your own nose. Your parents paid for your college and you haven't done a lick of man's work in your whole life. You haven't been in the military and you haven't raised a family. So go back to picking your boogers and eating them. Don't be bothering people. "

1.) I've been through more at 25 than some in their entire lives. Don't play the numbers game with me, sir.

2.) My parents contributed not one cent toward my university education. I've been working since I was 16 years old, without a lapse in employment. Dare I say, with the same company. I began working full time when I started college.

I'm glad that we cleared that up.

hahahahahahahahaaaaaa

Really???? Like some of who? The other idiot liberals in here?

If you truly had been through that much you wouldn't be so dumb to say the things your saying.

Why is it the immature are always telling everyone that they are adults?

And you have been working? A man's work? Have you spent your years working construction or some flower shop?

Now sit down and shut up.

Melvil Dewey was very much a man, and he worked, so yes, I suppose I'm doing a "man's" work.

Apparently Rustler you don't work at all, because nary a minute goes by that that blinking heifer does not appear!

Thom,
"Melvil Dewey was very much a man, and he worked, so yes, I suppose I'm doing a "man's" work."

Why is it the most immature and anti-social among the grown-ups -- however Rustler is defining that -- the first to highlight someone else's relative youth, as if youth were a bad thing? I don't know. What I do know is that Rustler may have you by a number of years, but emotionally and intellectually he has a lot of growing up to do.

Having said all that, let's as Catholics, look at how St. Benedict considered the value of the contributions of the youth to important considerations:

"Whenever weighty matters are to be transacted in the monastery, let the Abbot call together the whole community, and make known the matter which is to be considered. Having heard the brethren's views, let him weigh the matter with himself and do what he thinketh best. It is for this reason, however, we said that all should be called for counsel, because the Lord often revealeth to the younger what is best" (Rule of St. Benedict, Chapter III)

Demo, sonny, you're blubbering incoherently again.

BTW in my youth I knew enough to keep my mouth shut and not to pretend knowing something in front of my elders.

Funny. I could be wrong, but I would put money on the table that you're hardly my elder.

This is a lie. Another one of Kaherine's many lies. Obama is NOT surging with Catholics. A faithful Catholic CANNOT vote for Obama.

How do you justify your vote when he has promised to sign FOCA? Do you realize what that means? Overturning partial birth abortion bans. Overturning parental notification laws. Overturning any and all limits on abortion -- including allowing babies to die unattended -- the same babies who miraculously survived abortions.

I dare you to print this Katherine. You Obama Catholics are either ignorant or so attached to your pro-abortion views that you would vote for this devil.

It's easy to say that Obama is not surging among Catholics when you get to choose who's Catholic. Your definition of who's Catholic, however, will not alter the political landscape. ;)

Abortion is one of the most extreme manifestations of disregard and intolerance that we face as Americans. It is intolerance for human life itself. There are other issues, yes, but abortion, whether people like to admit it or not, is NOT remote from these other issues, and I'll tell you why right now. The other issues I am refering to are things like welfare, social justice, etc. The reason why these issues are even present in the conscience of the American people (or should be) stems from the concept that human life deserves respect and just treatment. Let me make it clear--there are no "conditions" to which a human life should have to conform in order to deserve human rights. To say so would be the equivalent of calling parts of human existence "sub-human", and this has been done throughout history as a way of justifying a controlling entity's greed. Some examples of where we have seen this are slavery, the holocaust, genocide occuring in Africa, and now, more than ever, the indiscriminate slaughter of innocent and helpless human life towards the end of convenience. Abortion IS an issue, if not THE issue that should determine who you vote for, especially if you are Catholic, in that abortion is the greatest social tragedy in the United States today.
