Black Catholics Excited About Obama's Campaign

Black Catholics see Obama candidacy as a path to racial equality

Catholic News Service recently wrote of how many African American Roman Catholics are excited about the historic presidential campaign of barack Obama.

Father Bryan N. Massingale, S.J., an associate professor of theology at Jesuit-run Marquette University in Milwaukee, warned that bias is still a reality today

Shirley Harris-Slaughter, 62, a black parishioner of Presentation/Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Detroit noted that African American are thankful Obama can overcome the very real racism that exists today.

Though black Catholics from across the U.S. told Catholic News Service they believe many black voters connect with Obama in part because of the color of his skin, they stressed that most are inspired by the 47-year-old senator for the same reason millions of Americans from many ethnic groups are enamored with him.

"Exposure to more positive black role models may provide white Americans with affirmative opinions of that segment of U.S. society, said Deacon Steven C. Rubio, a black Catholic who ministers at St. Matthew and St. Ambrose parishes in Baltimore."I think when you look at the images where most of us garner our information, which is mostly what is televised on the evening news, the amount of imagery that white America sees about black Americans is about crime," Deacon Rubio said. "When you are constantly fed a diet about a group of people, you are going to form a negative image of that group."By stressing the Catholic Church's teaching that racial inequality is a sin, the church can help promote harmony among all ethnic groups, he said.In their 2007 statement, "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship," the U.S. Catholic bishops called for an end to racial inequality."It is important for our society to continue to combat discrimination based on race, religion, sex, ethnicity, disabling condition or age, as these are grave injustices and affronts to human dignity," the statement reads. "Where the effects of past discrimination persist, society has the obligation to take positive steps to overcome the legacy of injustice, including vigorous action to remove barriers to education and equal employment for women and minorities."

Beverly A. Carroll, assistant director of cultural diversity for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, and a black parishioner at St. Peter Claver in Baltimore says that "Racism has to be considered as a life issue too."

Polls are showing that over 90% of African American Catholics intend on voting for Barack Obama. Black Catholics are providing critical support in such battleground states as Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Ohio and Missouri. Supporters of Senator Obama have worked to help with voter registration drives at historically Black Catholic parishes. Non-partisan efforts are also underway at many of these parishes to make sure that all of their parishioners vote on election day (or before in early voting).

Keyword -- "Jesuit." It would have been just as well if they said, "Marxist run."

"Though black Catholics from across the U.S. told Catholic News Service they believe many black voters connect with Obama in part because of the color of his skin...."

As we see they are correct about racism's still being alive.

Now why do they connect with Obama and not with Condoleeza Rice, Colin Powell, Alan Keyes, etc., etc.?

It's because those figures are not racist.

"I think when you look at the images where most of us garner our information, which is mostly what is televised on the evening news, the amount of imagery that white America sees about black Americans is about crime," Deacon Rubio said.

Well.

But the fact is also that Democrats don't want to have aired anything good because it is not politically correct to see conservative blacks doing well.

Yes, racism is alive and well.

yeah, well white Catholics are excited about McCain.

Rustler,

Do you make these things up as you go along? Black people love Colin Powel and Condoleeza Rice. They do not much care for Alan Keyes since he does not hide his contempt for them. They were all behind Clarence Thomas until he turned on them.

Know your facts.

Rustler45 said...

Marie, and just where do you get your "facts?"

You just made them up.

Here are a few facts for you

This won't last long so you better watch it quick.

Barack Obama Supporter Mark Warner: Pro-Lifers "Threaten" American Values

Richmond, VA (LifeNews.com) -- Mark Warner is a former Virginia governor who is running for a U.S. Senate seat and is a strong supporter of Barack Obama. A new audio recording has surfaced showing Warner saying that pro-life advocates and other conservatives are "threatening to what it means to be an American."

The remark is making the rounds of the Internet and reminding pro-life voters of the off-putting comment Obama made in Pennsylvania earlier in the campaign that conservative and pro-life rural voters "cling to guns or religion."

"One of the things you're going to see is a coalition that has just about completely taken over the Republican Party in this state, and if they have their way they're going to take over state government," Warner says.

"It's made up of the Christian Coalition. It's made up of the right to lifers," Warner continues.

"It's made up of a coalition of people that have all sorts of different views that I think most of us in this room would find threatening to what it means to be an American," he concludes.

I to find the National Right to Life Committee to be threatening to America. Not because they are pro-life, but because they have traded true pro-life values in order to be a side-car to the Republican Party.

Threatening to what it means to be an American?? What utter nonsense!

Rustler,

I get my facts from the black community in which I live 24/7. Are you there?

Most blacks were very critical of the media for criticizing Clarence Thomas and even had it for Anita Hill for bringing up his flaws.

Why is one person allowed to dominate all these blogs? If he were coherent or presented anything other than drivel --- it would be understandable. Can't someone edit?

Katherine said...

We delete the majority of them.

And its not censorship. Censorship would be to suppress because of the content. I don't even read them so I have no idea what the content is. They are deleted because we have no respect for Rustler, who reminds me of the south end of a northbound mule.

Anonymous said...

Ah, but Katherine you DID practice censorship when I notified you THREE times that, according to David Duke's website, he was not supporting anyone....when you had stated that he was supporting McCain.

Anonymous said...

AND....after those three times over a few days...you still have not printed the posts.

"Marie, how many children do you have?"
Rustler,
Was that a veiled racial assumption?

Anonymous said...

Rustler, Kathy and Bob only seems to post rants, sarcasm and hate. Why can't they write something interesting like McCain's views on health insurance, the economy or foreign affairs? It is jsut nastiness from the three of them.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Martin M. I think they are poseurs --not Catholics at all!

Anonymous said...

Martin m,

Oh, if only we could be profound like you! Anybody that disagrees with the Obama lovers on here is labeled "nasty." How original!

Anonymous said...

Besides, we are only emulating our hero, Katherine, the queen of sarcasm and nastiness.....and lies!

Anonymous said...

Oh,and one more thing martin m,
Why don't you give US a detailed outline of Obama's views on health insurance, the economy and foreign affairs? Oh, that's right, he doesn't have any!!
Just sign me Kathy, the Catholic poseur! HA!

Rustler45 said...

DEMO SAID: "Rustler,
Was that a veiled racial assumption?"

No, it was a direct question you nincompoop.

Katherine said...

Kathy,

Email me a 100 word defense of John McCain's health care plan and I will post it. Not an attack on Obama but a promotion of McCain's position.

Katherine

Anonymous said...

Oh, Katherine, I will think about it when you post a retraction of your claim that David Duke is a supporter of John McCain.

Anonymous said...

And after you're done posting your retraction, maybe you can give me a 100 word defense as to why Obama's campaign gave $800,000 to ACORN to register new voters and now ACORN is being investigated for voter fraud in over 13 states???? Did you see the "voter" on television this morning who was registered by Acorn 72 times? ACORNs defense? No, the person was only registered 18 times!! HAHAHA!! Saw it with my own eyes on television. Politics CHICAGO style!!! Of course, Barack now denies that he ever worked for ACORN, as a community organizer, even though just a few months ago he was bragging about it.

"Oh, Katherine, I will think about it..."

In other words, Kathy, you have nothing to offer; nothing positive to say about McCain.

Anonymous said...

That's not fair, Sean.

Anonymous said...

kathy --

As far as I can can tell, katherine gave you a generous offer to have a platform to talk about John McCain's views on health insurance. I don't understand why you don't take her up on it.

Rustler45 said...

THE LITTLE ASSBITER SEAN SAID: "In other words, Kathy, you have nothing to offer; nothing positive to say about McCain."

Hey burdbrain, we're not here to defend some liberal Republican. We are here to confuse, confound, and insult the geniuses who think a Marxist Muslim would make a good president.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Rustler. I have said it once and I will say it again....Rustler is the only one that makes sense here!!!

Sean, You came on all slick and sweet on that other post and I fell for it! Katherine is giving me a generous offer????? What is this.... welfare??? Hey, I work for a living I don'r need it!!! She can't even admit that she lied about David Duke supporting John McCain. But someday, Katie baby, Christ and His Mother, as you so falsely quote on other sites, will be waiting for you!!!

I, too often, make the mistake of thinking that someone is willing to have a straight forward philosophical argument about a topic and then I realize they are nuts! I used to do that with Katherine on The Cafeteria is Closed....until I realized.....and others pointed out to me....that she is nuts! Check out American Papist sometime...over there they refer to her as the troll!! How apt!!

Well, I stopped talking with her there and I will stop talking here. Katherine, you win. But I hate to tell you sweetheart, but you are certifiably nuts! You are seriously passive-aggressive....and in case someone says I don't know of where I speak I am a psychologist by profession. Someday, Katie baby, you will have to answer for your ugly way of behaving.....don't doubt it for a second.

And for all of you...Sean 1, Marie-Elsie, TRicia, etc etc (And I am not so sure that they are not all Katherine) you can say that I am mean, nasty, negative and crazy. You can say that I am like Rustler, Bob or whomever else disagrees with you.....I wear it as a badge of honor!!

Goodbye, Rustler, see you in the next life. We can laugh about all these Obama idiots. Even if, God forbid, he wins....it will all come to disaster in the end.

God Reigns! And NO amount of obfuscation on the part of Obama nutcases can change that!!!

Hang in there, Rustler! You are stronger than I! Give em hell!!!

Anonymous said...

Kate, you are a fool. All of Kathy's negative posts here and as soon as you gave her the chance to make a sane, rational defense of one of McCain's issue positions, she runs away. Now if you could only do the same for "the other one".

Anonymous said...

P.S. One more thing Kate.....watch out posting on American Papist........I will be dogging you all the way!!!! Everyone there KNOWS you are a nut!!! EVERY TIME I SEE YOU ON THERE I WILL BRING UP WHAT A LIAR YOU ARE IN SAYING DAVID DUKE SUPPORTED JOHN MCcAIN.

A little high-strung, Kathy?

I can not understand how a Catholic can possibly ever vote for a democrat, especially one as liberal as Obama. What part of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness does he champion? None!

When I ask those left Catholics’ why they lean left they have one of two answers

1) Social Justice we need to help our fellow man. With this I agree, but I believe that we will be judged based on what we are willing to do for our fellow man…not by what we legislate and force upon others. You do not get a reward for forcing others to be “giving”

2) Capital Punishment Life is Sacred – I say BS. Do they really care more about the lives of the 42 convicted felons that were executed in 2007 than the estimated 0ver 1,000,000 innocent babies that were aborted in the same year?

The Pro-Life position is not a negotiable position in the Catholic Faith yet so many who claim to be Catholic are willing to turn a blind eye.

I recently saw a video at the following url ( http://www.durarealidad.com/ ) I challenge any Catholic, indeed any person to watch this video and still say they can accept Abortion. It is difficult to watch but whether you are pro-life, pro-abortion or somewhere in between it will change your view and probably your life. I will warn you in advance that if you have the courage to watch, you will be forced to reconsider what you believe and what you are called to do regarding this issue.

While I do not concur with that line of thinking, I am familar with it. It is the philosophical basis for the pro-choice movement.
