With the Supreme Court's green light to a law passed by Indiana Republicans to take away the right to vote from those who cannot produce a photo ID, 12 Catholic nuns in South Bend were turned away today from a polling place because they didn't have state or federal identification bearing a photograph, reports the South Bend Tribune.

The sisters at Saint Mary's Convent in South Bend, across the street from the University of Notre Dame, all in their 80s or 90s, showed up at their precinct to vote and were told they could not under the Republican law. The law allows for no exception even though pollworkers were willing to testify that the nuns were who they said they where.

heavens, how awful. a person having to prove that they are who they say they are before being allowed to shape the future of the country.

First of all, there are no such thing as "Republican laws" or "Democrat laws." There are only laws. Your phrasing here is simply partisanship at its worst.

Secondly, while it is a terrible shame that the nuns were not allowed to vote, I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. There is no reason whatsoever at all that a US citizen cannot come by some kind of official government ID. No ID, no vote. It was a painful lesson for them, but I doubt the nuns will make that mistake ever again.

The issue is that the nuns were quite capable of proving who they were, they just didn't have the state issued photo ID. 90 year old wheelchair bound nuns, having re-located from Michigan to Indiana are hardly prime candidates to re-new their expiring passports or apply for a new Indiana drivers permit.

You should change the picture to better reflect the type of nuns that you are talking about.
Here is a link to a picture of the nun who turned the others away.

The picture posted looked a bit too Catholic to fit with the story.

oops, try this instead and just click on the nuns picture

No one's right was taken away. While I can appreciate the difficulty the nuns would have in obtaining photo id, they nonetheless would have been able to vote had they gotten the required id.

Yeah we should be stopping Osama's I mean Obama's supporters from voting. They are gonna lead us down the path of destruction. There is only one vote for REAL Americans and good Catholics and that is Senator John McCain! Link their now to clear out the cobwebs from reading this wrong headed site by a probably nice but very silly lady.

It not news that the Republicans would try to stop African-Americans, Hispanics, the poor or the elderly from voting. But nuns? These guys know no shame
They stole the 2000 election and they will try to steal the next one.

wow i saw the picture of at least one butch looking "none" i'm so glad she didn't vote.

Katherine, they caught you. Redhanded!!! Typical.

Hey Katherine, Tami asked you over in another blog how your scumbag buddies were able to get LSD back in the 50's. You haven't answered.

Just wondering.

Katherine, I noticed that you admit being a liberal over at Closed Cafeteria.

How is it that you feel OK with that?

Have you gone to the link I provided for the online book LIBERALISM IS A SIN?

Here it is just in case you missed it.

Maybe it will help you to change your way of thinking and realize that you are on the path to perdition (i.e., Hell).
