PALIN MOCKS CATHOLIC CHURCH IN SPEECH

Alaska Governor and GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin mocked the Catholic Church for her efforts to help the poor and disempowered in a nationally televised address at the Republican National Convention.

Palin’s sarcastic mocking of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s work as a community organizer for a Catholic sponsored project in cluded the statement “I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities,”

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani also belittled Obama’s work as a community organizer, as the assembled Republicans laughed at the idea of serving the poor as part of a Catholic sponsored project.

Barack Obama was hired at a meager salary to direct a project sponsored by the Catholic Church through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). CCHD is the initiative of the American Catholic Bishops and laity to address the root causes of poverty and social alienation.

Dr. Patrick Whelan, a prominent Catholic layman and president of Catholic Democrats, responded to Palin, stating “Her divisive rhetoric, repeatedly pitting small towns against urban communities, demonstrates not only a lack of charity toward the needs of some of the least among us but a fundamental disrespect for those who dedicate their lives to overcoming poverty across our country.”

Palin was baptized a Catholic but never practiced the faith. She asked to be re-baptized in Protestantism and now belongs to an independent Protestant Church known for its support for the "Jews for Jesus" organization.

What a bullshxt article.

I never heard of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). What do you want to bet it's some liberation theology program (i.e., Marxist). Is it a front for AK-47s for South America?

What a twist to words to make such "mocking" the Church.

You people mock the Catholic Church everyday with your support of an abortionist, Marxist, pro-homo marriage wacko extremist.

It is really outrageous that the Catholic Church works so hard to help the poor and unfortunate and some Republican politican gets up and puts us down. Shameless.

His was no meager salary. Inflation adjusted he made $24,000 a year which is great for a 23 year old with no college degree and no work experience.

Oh baloney.

Whine whine whine. She is kicking your asses and you can't find anything better to bash her for. Why don't you go back to bashing her pregnant 17 year old daughter. That's more your style.

That organization has about as much credibility as Catholic Charities. Check either one and you'll find their support of pro-life is next to zero.

I answer, do your damn homework before you drunkenly respond to a blog. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is a program of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the Conference administers the funding of that Campaign through local diocesan Catholic Charities offices.

Obviously, the "Campaign" is not socialist, but grants funding according to the collective mind of the United States Catholic bishops. If you oppose that funding, that's on you. But then you can't call those other laypersons who support that funding "dissidents."

But, Rustler, you were never really serious about who is or who is not a dissident. You were and are only concerned about stirring shit up and drawing attention to yourself.

Congratulations. You did it again.

Facts are not a strong point for the Republicans. Barack Obama answered the Catholic Church's call to help organize laid off steelworkers on the South Side of Chicago AFTER he graduated from Columbia University. He had many job offers at much higher pay.

Nor do they seem so for you. I did some more checking on the organization that Sen. Obama did his community organizing for. The DCP, Developing Communities Project. They don't seem to be any type of Catholic organization at all. In fact there is not one Catholic on their board. Was this always the case? It matters not an iota that they received funding from the Catholic Church, that does not make them a Catholic organization.

That is absolutely irrelevant and you know it. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development does not require those who receive their funding to be a Catholic organization. They only require that those who receive their funding do not engage in missions at odds with the moral and social teachings of the Church and that their work is drawn from the social teaching of the Church.

That the Catholic Campaign for Human Development funded the organization Obama was an organizer with indicates that, in the mind of the Church (or, at least in the mind of the Archbishop of Chicago and those representing him), the organization was doing the work the Church supports.

Thank you CatholicsforDemocracy for finally accepting my point. I know they don't have to be Catholic to receive funds, I never said they did. What this blog has been lying about is that he worked for a Catholic charity. You in trying to counter my point have actually made it by stating, "The Catholic Campaign for Human Development does not require those who receive their funding to be a Catholic organization." Those are your words. The fact that he worked for a non-denominational faith based group which received some moneys from CHD does not make it a Catholic organization. Further as Katherine stated in the post prior to yours "he answered the Catholic Churchs call to come and work with the laid off steelworkers."

Here is how it went down according to the http://www.barackobama.com website.
"In 1985, freshly graduated from Columbia University and working for a New York business consultant, Barack Obama decided to become a community organizer. Though he liked the idea, he didn't understand what the job involved, (Tough to criticize Rudy Giuliani when Obama didn't even know what a community organizer did) and his inquiries turned up few opportunities.

Then he got a call from Jerry Kellman, (a disciple of Saul Alinski, neither of whom was Catholic) an organizer working on Chicago's far South Side for a community group based in the churches of the region, an expanse of white, black and Latino blue-collar neighborhoods that were reeling from the steel-mill closings. Kellman was looking for an organizer for the new Developing Communities Project (DCP), which would focus on black city neighborhoods." So when did the Catholic Church call him?

They were doing the work that the Catholic Church supports.

As do many different organizations, even secular, communist or socialist ones which however still does not make them Catholic.

Plain and simple Sarah Palin did not smear the Catholic Church in any way shape or form nor did she smear any of the other charities that gave money to the DCP. She made a political jab at a rival candidate, that is all.

What DemoMarxist? Did that make you mad because I got it right without even checking?

I can also tell you that your stab about drunkeness is just as accurate as your insinuation that Sarah Palin mocked the Catholic Church. I have never been a drinker but enjoy a beer now and then.

Since you can accuse me without doing your homeword and get it wrong I can one more time accuse you without doing any homework and get it right. You have done drugs haven't you? And you have experimented with other illegal immoral things haven't you?

MARXISTCATHOLIC SAID: "Obviously, the "Campaign" is not socialist, but grants funding according to the collective mind of the United States Catholic bishops."

hahahahaha Obviously the "Campaign" IS socialist. Look at who the authors of it are. The same men who brought us homosexual "pedophiles" and somebody is surprised that we have a Church full of Marxists?

Collective? See I told you it was all Marxist. You can't resist or refrain from the word "collective." That impresses you doesn't it?

Collective – Is the opinion of the elite while the opinions of the poor and powerless are not withstanding. It equates to absolute tyranny.

The late Bishop Thomas Dolinay walked out of the USCCB conference and told them all that they were a "bunch of communists." He died 20 years ago and since then nothing has changed. I already knew it without his saying it. What's your problem?

DEMOMARXIST: "But, Rustler, you were never really serious about who is or who is not a dissident. You were and are only concerned about stirring shit up and drawing attention to yourself."

Wonderful Demo! Show us some more about yourself.

Katherine,

Where's my post from last night? Afraid to post it so you don't have to apologize for all the lies being spread around here? I answered Catholics for Democracy how he made my point that Obama didn't work for a Catholic group.

Isn't it sad that you can do sober what others only do when they're drunk.

And I've never said it was a Catholic Charity. It was a Catholic Campaign sponsored project. I have been very clear about that.

The Catholic Church calls all of us to work for justice. And she sponsors programs like the one Barack Obama served because she believes they represent her vision of justice.

Barack Obama's work was noble and commendable. I find it so interesting the Republicans are suggesting that a career in government (which they usually are so critical of) has merit but a faith based, community based non-profit is unworthy.

There is a deeper story here which I hope to find time to address.

Jealous aren't you? You couldn't answer my post and this is the best you can do.

And thanks for fulfilling my request to show us more about yourself. You crack me up. I have known more Political Science majors in my life than I care to mention. They have always proved themselves dunces.

Go put your dunce hat on, stand in the corner, and quit bothering people.
