SHAMEFUL AND PATHETIC

PAUL RYAN:  GIVING PHARISEES A BAD NAME

Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that the Romney campaign last week “ramrodded their way” into the group’s Youngstown soup kitchen so that GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan could get his picture taken washing dishes in the dining hall.  He called the use of this Catholic charity to be a ‘publicity stunt’ for the GOP ticket.

Juanita Sherba, St. Vincent’s Saturday coordinator for the dinning hall, had equally harsh words about Ryan’s visit.  The event “was a photo op,” she told the Youngstown Vindicator.  “It was the phoniest piece of baloney I’ve ever been associated with. In hindsight, I would have never let him in the door.”

Antal added: “The photo-op they did wasn’t even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.”

The campaign had not contacted the St. Vincent de Paul Society in advance of the stunt, but just barged into the soup kitchen without permission, bullying their way past a volunteer.  The good Catholics had finished serving the hungry and washing up afterwards. Ryan grabbed an apron and began washing an already clean pot, posing for campaign photographers. Since all of the guests of the soup kitchen had been served and left, Ryan did not have to come into direct contact with any of the poor and hungry.

LYNCHBURG, VA -- Amid questions and criticisms related to Paul Ryan’s visit this weekend to an Ohio soup kitchen, the charity’s president said the Republican vice presidential candidate did, in fact, scrub dirty dishes

He really is a jerk. Using a Catholic soup kitchen to make an uninvited photo-op.

So there are different stories if the dishes he washed were dirty or not. The point remained that he pushed his way in, uninvited, grabbed an apron and used it as a photo op.

Sick and pathetic.

Ryan has hit a new low. He is a snake oil salesman. Paul Ryan has never had a real job in his life. Pretending to wash dishes is not working.

Notice Ryan is wearing a watch. Any dishwasher knows not to do that. Yep, this is clearly his first time washing dishes. Must of had the maid do it before.

I think it would be great if Ryan were challenged to actually show up at a soup kitchen and serve its clientele. Then they could tell him what they really think of him and Romney. And let's make sure the video cameras are there for that! Any Catholic Workers up for that challenge?

I love it, too, how the Republican spinmeisters like the guy above are relying on a guy who wasn't even there at the soup kitchen during the drive-by dishwashing.

Good point, Jake. I can honestly say that none of our guests at the dinner program I volunteer at indicate they are voting for RomneyRyan.

It is a little confusing. The director was told by his site coordinator they were not dirty. The reporters said they didn't look dirty. Now the director said another volunteer told him they were dirty but only because they were told by the Romney-Ryan campaign to leave a pot dirty so Ryan could wash it for the cameras.

Whatever the small points, on the big issue Ryan does not look good.
