Cuban American Catholics Support the President

OBAMA WOWS CATHOLIC CUBANS

The Cuban-American community has been known to be strongly Catholic and strongly Republican. It has been maybe the only significant social element that has modified the GOP's tendency to be an all-white/Anglo club.

Until now.

President Obama is winning tremendous support from Catholic Cuban-Americans. More surprisingly, he is doing so even while venturing into Cuban policy issues that are unlikely to make everyone happy. Over 67% of Catholic Cuban-Americans have a favorable view of the President, the highest level since Ronald Reagan and even higher than the general population's support for Obama. 64% of Cuban Americans say they support the President's Cuban policy (61% of the general population says so).

Strong generational differences also exist with younger Cuban Americans wildly enthusiastic about President Obama.

Seemingly, the narrow community of Obama-hating Catholics draws smaller and whiter.

The trends indicate the Rep party ie the party old white guys is on a path towards extinction.

Younger voters and minorities, especially Hispanics, who will be the majority race in America, gasp! ;) by 2042 or earlier are trending heavily progressive which is not a good sign for the ever dwindling party of NO! And there are no Reagan's on the horizon in the Rep party.

Paul Begala summed up the Rep problem in a nutshell ~ If he's a miserable failure like Bush, we'll re-elect him anyway! the problem the Dems had in 1984 ie no rational alternative. When Limbaugh, Gingrich, Rove, Hannity, Beck etc. are the leaders of your party, you got a big problem lol

btw, whatever happened to that permanent Rep majority Rove talked about ~ bwahaha!

Sí Se Puede !!!take care, blessings

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington , DC 20500

Mr. Obama:

I have had it with you and your administration, sir. Your conduct on your
recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate
representative of the United States of America collectively or of me
personally.

You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that
you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United
States of America. You are responsible to the citizens of the United
States. You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on
earth.

I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United
States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their
status in the world. Sir, what do you think the First World War and the
Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the peoples of
Europe? Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all
about? Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century?

Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does
not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration
of Independence or the Constitution of the United States? This country was
founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this
country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage.
Do you not understand this?

Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans.
Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi
Arabia . You don't show Great Britain, our best and one of our oldest
allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi
Arabia . How dare you, sir! How dare you!

You can't find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation
because you don't want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a
mosque in Turkey . You offended our dead and every veteran when you give
the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from
themselves. What's the matter with you?

I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the
historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of
yourselves, all of you.

You are so self-righteously offended by the big bankers and the American
automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this
situation, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie
Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about
them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.

What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to
their staff members on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that
lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17%
bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer. You
haven't said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn't!

Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in
bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that's $45 million more than the AIG
bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded
$51 million not a bad take. Who authorized that and why haven't you
expressed your outrage at this group who are largely responsible for the
economic mess we have right now.

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not
caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we
are getting increasingly fed up with all of you. I also want you to know
that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive
to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work
tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms
destroying my beautiful country.

Sincerely,

Every real American

Katherine said...

According to the recent polls, "Every Real American" is less than a quarter of the population, while the President's approval ratings are over 67%!!!!

Jeffrey said...

The 67% approval ratings are an absolute fabrication!

I don't know anyone who approves of him and everyone I know who voted for him is sorry for doing so.

BTW everyone I know in the military (a considerable number) hates Obama.

Susan said...

You are so silly, Katherine. Where is your story about Mary Ann Glendon? I suppose she has become a "right-wing Catholic" in your eyes.

Kurt said...

Interesting. I am a Christian and hate no one.

Kurt said...

Susan,

Glendon is Republican activist and has worked in a number of Republican campaigns. She was a George Bush political appointee. Nothing wrong with that, but let's not pretend is doesn't have political views.

Susan said...

She happens to be strongly pro-life, Kurt. That is what drove her decision NOT the fact she may be a Republican. Her POLITICAL views have nothing to do with it. She shows MORAL courage here which, for some, has nothing to do with politics.

Brian said...

I'm not sure where Midwest Mom gets her information, but to say it is inaccurate is putting it mildly.

Mary Ann Glendon is a woman of unbelievable credibility and integrity. She has long been an opponent of the death penalty and a long time civil rights activist. She was an attorney for the Freedom Riders back in the 1960s.

She also wrote a book about Eleanor Roosevelt who she has described as her hero.

"She’s a woman of principle and not a partisan,” says Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz. “She often supports people with whom she disagrees. She is a genuine moderate who can’t be put in a pigeonhole.”

Dems get new crop of military votersAn interesting subtext to John McCain’s defeat last week is what it means for the future of the Republican Party with respect to veterans and military voters. With McCain facing a diminished role in the GOP, and Chuck Hagel retiring from the Senate, there are few prominent Republican leaders left with military bona fides. This is in stark contrast to the Democratic Party, which has seen the emergence of a new generation of veteran leaders.

In the past two election cycles, Democrats have added ten new Democratic veterans to Congress. Last week, President-elect Barack Obama helped close the gap among military voters, winning 44 percent of veterans as opposed to John F. Kerry’s 41 percent in 2004.President Bush has almost single-handedly ended the GOP’s lock on veteran and military voters through his tragic mismanagement of the war in Iraq. I have seen the change among active duty members of the military firsthand. Our families have been torn apart by the intolerable rate and length of deployments – and even many solidly conservative members of the military will privately question the competence of Republican leaders.

Now, it will be up to a Democratic president to rebuild a military that has been pushed to the breaking point by a Republican. President-elect Obama will rebuild the military for the 21st Century by increasing the size of the Marine Corps and Army; restoring the readiness of the National Guard and Reserves; and fully equipping service members for the missions they face.

Obama weakens GOP stranglehold on military voteProminent DEems?Reps who served in the military? My fav chicken hawks in no particular order: Romney, Guiliani, Thompson, Lott, McConnell, Cornyn, Cheney, Bush43, Boehner, Blunt, Hastert, Delay, Frist, Santorum and "Macaca" Allen.

btw, did Cheney receive 5, 6, or 7 Vietnam deferments? ;)

It's funny how the leading proponents of war in congress usually are the ones who would never join the military if their life depended on it!

And, of course, Limbaugh, Hannity, Billo, Savage, Beck etc. etc. are/were chicken hawks also, I digress.

Interesting to note Obama got 44% of the military vote running against a certified war hero, McCain. One would suspect if it had been Romney or Guiliani, Obama may have been over 50%.

Here's the basic rub against Reps. They try to convey themselves as the party of national security and 100% behind the military when most of their current leaders are chicken hawks.

They try to convey themselves as the party of family values when various members are caught in sex scandals ie Mark Foley, David Vitter, Larry Craig etc. the last (2) were not forced to resign.

ie they are hypocrites !!! and yes some Dems are chicken hawks and have sex scandals also, but they have never professed themselves as being holier than thou!

take care, blessings

p.s. Jeffrey, being a USN veteran myself, would suspect Obama's current job approval rating of @ 67/68% is also his current approval rating among military personnel and instead of copy and pasting a generic email re: how a few disgruntled Obama haters are still sore losers regarding his winning the election, why don't you try writing something original!

ciao

And who said she wasn't a Republican??? Read what I said. The point I was making was that she has MORAL courage. What does respect for the president have to do with it? Oh, I forgot, we are not allowed to disagree with him. So, so sorry.

Didn't Ms. Glendon defend Fr. Maciel and the Legionaires of Christ against the scandalous claims made against them? Integrity? I don't think so. She's first and foremost a Republican operative who hangs with the likes of neo-cons Weigel and Novak.

arrrgh said...

Glendon is reportedly not a registered Republican. That doesn't mean, however, that she is not actively supportive of the Republican Party or an operative thereof.

And citing Alan Dershowitz as a character reference in her behalf is a bit much. We all know should know where Dershowitz stands on torture which last time I looked was not part of Catholic teaching.

Re: Conservatives in Full Retreat on Notre DameCatholics support Obama Notre Dame appearanceConservative Catholics have mounted a campaign against the University of Notre Dame's decision to have President Obama give this year's commencement speech, and they've managed to capture quite a bit of media attention in the process. But a new poll suggests that the movement is, as Joan Walsh wrote last month, largely limited to the right-wing, as most Catholics who've heard about the speech are fine with it.

The Pew Research Center found that, of those Catholics who say they've heard about the controversy, 54 percent approve of the school's choice. 38 percent oppose it. Among those who hadn't heard about it, only a plurality approved, but the margin was much wider -- 45 percent in favor, 18 percent opposed.

Those numbers are actually eclipsed by data Joan had previously pointed to: 73 percent of Notre Dame students, including 97 percent of its seniors, support the invitation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hmm, 97% of ND seniors !!! a big reason why Obama won Indiana. The first time a Dem had won IN since LBJ in 1964! Young voters and Catholic voters trending progressive ...
take care, blessings
