Church Rites for Geraldine Ferraro

Geraldine Ferraro made history as the first woman on a major party ticket for national office. At Ferraro's funeral service on Thursday at the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, political luminaries recalled fondly her 1984 vice presidential bid and the speech she delivered at the Democratic convention that year. "The one thing that Geraldine said during her speech that sticks with me the most, is 'It's not what American can do for women, it's what women can do for America,'" said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Among those who spoke at the funeral were presidential candidate Walter Mondale:lo former President Bill Clinton; Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

I like this website. I sure would like for my cousin to read this. She thinks we cannot be a Caholic and be a Democrat in good conscience. She absolutely will not vote for a Democrat for president because of "pro choice." I remember Geraldine Ferraro well and I voed for her and Mondale. As you know we had 12 years of Republican instead. We also found out the rich were favored again, as usual when Reagan and Bush left office. Mike Courtney

May God rest her soul in peace!!! I guess I am one of the Democrats which does not vote on only one issue. That year Reagan/Bush went in for a second term and I read after those 12 years of Reagan/Bush we had seven million more impoverished citizens as a result of Reaganomics. I'll just bet you that would not have happened had Mondale/Ferraro gotten elected. Although Republicans tend to be anti pro choice, they are also anti union and anti middle class. At the end of Mass at St. Patrick's in White Lake, MI the priest told us the Republican Party was no more pro life than the Democratic Party with all the money they put into building weapons to blow up the world. It was like God was speaking to me through him. I was on the fence about Mondale/Ferraro because of abortion. That priest helped me to decide it was okay to vote for Democrats. God bless. Michael R.
