"A community organizer who honed his advocacy for the poor, the marginalized and the worker in the streets of Chicago, he now organizes a larger community, bringing to the world a renewed American dedication to diplomacy and dialogue with all nations and religions committed to human rights and the global common good.
Through his willingness to engage with those who disagree with him and encourage people of faith to bring their beliefs to the public debate, he is inspiring this nation to heal its divisions of religion, culture, race and politics in the audacious hope for a brighter tomorrow."

"committed to human rights and the global common good."
This part of the reason of the honary degree is best described as ridiculous or unbelievable. This statement flies in the face of reality.
His legislative policies supporting abortion, appointing officials who are anti-family and pro-abortion(right to choose the evil of abortion if you prefer), and his past rhetoric have been an attack on human life at the most vulnerable stage and the integrity of the family.
Don't you folks see this?
With respect to the Notre Dame scandal, here is a stat for you.
77 Bishops have now spoke out against President Obama being given a platform or honorary degree.
0, not one, Bishop has spoken out in favor of President Obama.
77 - 0 is a landslide in any statistical measure.
But as I said before, stats don't mean a thing. It is wrong because it is a violation of the bishop's charter but even more importantly it is a cause for scandal.
By the wildest counts, less than 15% of the bishops have objected in some way to the President. And the repeated suggestions by supporters of the President to put the issue to a vote before the next meeting of the USCCB have been met with silence from the Obama-haters.
Anyway, those who sought to stop the President have lost. The speech is going forward on Sunday and they have just made themselves look in effective.
GO OBAMA!!!! We love you, Mr. President!
The numbers mean nothing. Bishops and other Christians should stand for what is right.
Besides Jesus said in Matthew 7:14--"For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it."
I hope the readers and writers of this blog will continue to pray that the Holy Spirit will touch President Obama's heart and he will have a change of mind concerning the sanctity of life.
Until that happens, we all should continue to criticize him in this area. It does not mean that we can't support him and praise him on other issues.
But this "we love you Mr. President" type rhetoric is bizarre and actually hurts the president more than helps.

And except for bitter, irrational partisans, everyone knows that Notre Dame is doing the last five words of yours quoted above.
However, we should follow Christ's command and love everyone.
