CATHOLIC CHARITIES USA JOINS POPE IN CONGRATULATING OBAMA ON HIS ELECTION

Catholic Charities USA sent a congratulatory letter to President-elect Obama yesterday; the contents are included below:

November 5, 2008

Dear President-elect Obama,

As president of Catholic Charities USA, let me congratulate you on your election to the presidency of the United States. You have inspired many people through this historic election.

We at Catholic Charities USA look forward to working with you to alleviate the need of so many of our fellow citizens. For over 280 years we have provided human services on this continent. Last year we served over 8 million people. We have done so in partnership both with the government and private sector. I know that you share our commitment to these "least among us" and I hope that we can continue to work together to empower people to overcome the bondage of poverty.

Be assured of our prayers for the success of your leadership so that God will grant you wisdom and strength for the enormous responsibility that you now assume. As you know, our Biblical roots call us to build a land of justice and peace where the disenfranchised will be valued and find opportunity. We stand ready to work with you in that endeavor.

My sincere congratulations!

Fr. Larry Snyder
President

I was away for awhile after the election, so didn't have an opportunity to comment on the last two posts. Along with Pope Benedict XVI and Catholic Charities, I am overjoyed that we now have the hope of restoring the public honor of our nation and opportunity for all Americans.

Yes... We... Did!

Yes, America's founding fathers wisely believed in the "separation of church and state", but they also believed in "freedom of religion".

The Bible says We are our brother's keeper! If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem ...

God bless Catholic Charities!

take care, blessings

We can all share in the historic moment of electing the first African American president, and for that Barack Obama deserves congratulations and our prayers.

However, I can't be but amazed at the support from Catholics for Obama and Biden.

Barack Obama voted, while in the Illinois Senate, that should a child "accidentally" survive an abortion attempt that child did not have any right to medical treatment. In the particular case in question, one of the least of our brothers, a newborn infant was put in a soiled utility room to die alone, and Barack Obama rose in the Senate to defend the law. A nurse could not bear to see this child, one of God's own die this way so she picked up and held the child for forty-five minutes before it died. This is hope? This is change? God have mercy on us all.

Catholic Charities is looking forward to working with this new administration. Interesting. I have a nickname for Joe Biden, I call him "Buck a Day Biden." Why? That is how much this devout Catholic has given to charity, on average over the last ten years. The man is a multi-millionaire and over a ten year period has given an average of $1 per day to charity. Barack Obama has given more but only since the sale of his two memoirs made him a multi-millionaire as well.

We are our brother's keepers, but Barack Obama has a brother in Kenya who lives on $1 per month and lives in a hut. Why not send him a ten dollar bill and double the man's income? He also has an aunt that he wrote about in his book who lives in a slum in Boston. It only seems that he wants to help his fellow man if he can, through the coercive power of government take money from one group and give it to another, but he shows no history of being charitable with his own money.

Many of his backers on the far left are promoting an agenda that is anathema to Catholics. His backers do not believe in Freedom of Religion but Freedom from Religion and they will, through the courts, vigorously attack any efforts for religion to cooperate with government. So other than the good wishes on the historical milestone, I am at a loss to see the support for this incoming administration.

Dear President-elect, Barack Obama. I know you are not perfect. We are praying for you. Please always listen to the people especially on very serious matters like abortion. It is an evil and should not be supported by any God fearing person like you.
Joe Biden, please always be close to him while he makes decisions because two good heads are better than one. Move on my men, God is with you.
