When Johnny Met Cindy

The Washington Post has an interesting piece on the first Mrs. McCain (Carol) and John McCain's adultery with Cindy Hensley as well as other women.

It states that Mrs. McCain "endured much in more than 14 years of marriage" to John McCain. "She had raised their three young children alone while her husband languished in a North Vietnamese prison camp for 5 1/2 years. Her tribulations grew immeasurably after a near-fatal car accident that immobilized her for months and left her scarred for life."

By the late '70s her husband "engaged in what he later termed 'dalliances' with other women." And in '80, John McCain was deep into an adulterous relationship with Cindy Hensley. He became engaged to Cindy while still married to Carol.

Carol, having raised John McCain's children and endured so much more, was not even mentioned in passing the biographical video played at the Republican Convention.

Make-Believe Maverick

A closer look at the life and career of John McCain reveals a disturbing record of recklessness and dishonesty ...

In the spring of 1979, while conducting official business for the Navy, the still-married McCain encountered Cindy Lou Hensley, a willowy former cheerleader for USC. Mutually smitten, the two lied to each other about their ages. The 24-year-old Hensley became 27; the 42-year-old McCain became 38. For nearly a year the two carried on a cross-country romance while McCain was still living with Carol: Court documents filed with their divorce proceeding indicate that they "cohabitated as husband and wife" for the first nine months of the affair.

Although McCain stresses in his memoir that he married Cindy three months after divorcing Carol, he was still legally married to his first wife when he and Cindy were issued a marriage license from the state of Arizona. The divorce was finalized on April 2nd, 1980. McCain's second marriage — rung in at the Arizona Biltmore with Gary Hart as a groomsman — was consummated only six weeks later, on May 17th. The union gave McCain access to great wealth: Cindy, whose father was the exclusive distributor for Budweiser in the Phoenix area, is now worth an estimated $100 million.

McCain's friends were blindsided by the divorce. The Reagans — with whom the couple had frequently dined and even accompanied on New Year's holidays — never forgave him. By the time McCain became a self-proclaimed "foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution" two years later, he and the Gipper had little more than ideology to bind them. Nancy took Carol under her wing, giving her a job in the White House and treating McCain with a frosty formality that was evident even on the day last March when she endorsed his candidacy. "Ronnie and I always waited until everything was decided and then we endorsed," she said. "Well, obviously, this is the nominee of the party."

take care, blessings

Oh, for heaven's sake! John and Cindy McCain have been married for almost 30 years! He has stated himself that the failure of his first marriage is HIS fault and HIS alone. Should he dress in sack cloth and ashes on the steps of the senate building?? I guess hanging around with terrorists and ctazed ministers and priests is less frightening to some than a cheating husband.(in his first marriage not his second). HAS BARACK OBAMA EVER ADMITTED THAT HE HAS DONE ANYTHING WRONG? I would be more frightened of someone who presents himself as a saint who has never ADMITTED that he has done anything wrong than I would of a man who freely admits his failings. We are all sinners....oh, sorry, I guess except for Barack.

Oh by the way, Kate, love the sleazy photo. Can you really be sure that the photo is of John and Cindy?

Susan,

Adultery is not some petty vice, It is an intrinsic evil, to use a term some seem to favor. An illicit marriage does not become licit with the passage of time.

Kurt, please use the term "intrinsic evil" very carefully. The phrase has a very specic meaning. Just because the right wingnuts misuse the term does not mean we, on the left, should misuse the term

Kurt,
How is this an illicit marriage? He is divorced and remarried. Neither one is a Catholic.

SUSAN ASKS: "How is this an illicit marriage? He is divorced and remarried. Neither one is a Catholic."

Nobody knows unless their marriage is investigated. On the surface we must assume that McCain's first marriage was valid. The Church recognizes nonCatholic marriages. There are several things that need to be known about both marriages (i.e., Is John and his first wife validly baptized?). Even so non baptized people still contract a valid marriage although it is not a sacramental marriage.

On the surface it appears that John's second marriage is illict, but since they are not Catholic there is no authority for them to straighten out the mess.

John's marriage is the least of our problems. The Democrats don't really care about his marriage except that they can use it as a rock to throw. We already know that if he was a Democrat that they would overlook the whole thing as his "private life," as they did with all their other dissolute characters. Not one of them protested against Clinton, nor Ted Kennedy, nor even John Kennedy.

There is no doubt this is a significant mark against McCain. People have every right to seriously consider this matter.

What???? Ya'll are embarrassed about this? Ooooooooooh The organization that you touted as a charitable Christian thing is now found out for what it is and of course your embarrassment requires that you censor it. hahahahahahaaaa Just goes to show how dishonest you are. Can't take being laughed at can you?

ACORN Vegas Office Raided in Voter Fraud Investigation
ACORN's Las Vegas headquarters has been raided by Nevada authorities looking for evidence of voter fraud.

Nevada state authorities seized records and computers Tuesday from the Las Vegas office of an organization that tries to get low-income people registered to vote, after fielding complaints of voter fraud.

Bob Walsh, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state's office, told FOXNews.com the raid was prompted by ongoing complaints about "erroneous" registration information being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN. The group was submitting the information through a voter sign-up drive known as Project Vote.

"Some of them used non-existent names, some of them used false addresses and some of them were duplicates of previously filed applications," Walsh said, describing the complaints, which largely came from the registrar in Clark County, Nev. He said some registrations used the names of Dallas Cowboys football players.

Walsh said agents from both the secretary of state's office and Nevada attorney general's office conducted the raid, and "took a bunch of stuff."

ACORN spokesman Charles Jackson confirmed the group's Nevada office was raided.

It's not the first time ACORN's been under investigation for irregularities in registration records.

In 2006, ACORN committed what the Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed called the "worse case of election fraud" in the state's history.

In the case, ACORN submitted just over 1,800 new voter registration forms, but there was a problem. The names were made up -- all but six of the 1,800 submissions were fakes.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

"He has stated himself that the failure of his first marriage is HIS fault and HIS alone. Should he dress in sack cloth and ashes on the steps of the senate building?"

He should absolutely present himself in sack cloth and should be throwing ashes over himself, and present himself in penitential prostration.

His marital infidelity is only symbolic of his broader personality and ideology, and how those translate into how he intends to govern.

We're voting to elect someone who very well may be the most powerful executive in the world. Questions about his personality that may effect how he may govern are fair game.

McCain likes to get a little tail. So what? Bill Clinton does too.

Well what does something like this say about his "Judgment"? More importantly his "moral judgment"...

If he is willing to disrespect the sanctity of his marriage... what else might he throw in the bag?

Rustler45 said...

Ya'll are really making a big mistake slamming McCain over his adultery because we already know that Obama is an adulterer. It just hasn't been exposed yet.

So get ready to eat crow.

Rustler, I hope and pray you are not Catholic. Please, JMJ, let him admit that he is not Catholic.
